Privacy Policy

International Generosity Foundation (“IGF”) has always taken our supporters' privacy seriously. Because we a member of a global network of like-minded foundations, we must comply with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”), which took effect in the EU on May 25th, 2018. The following privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) sets forth IGF’s information gathering and dissemination practices for all personal information collected by IGF.

Collection and use of personally identifiable information

When givers, prospective givers, or others contact IGF, via the Internet, phone, or otherwise, they often entrust IGF with personally identifiable information (“personal information”). Oftentimes this personal information contains sensitive and confidential material, including financial data, billing information, and social security numbers. Other information is less sensitive in nature, but still personal, including names, dates of birth, mailing addresses, email addresses, and telephone numbers. IGF’s primary purpose in collecting information from givers and prospective givers is to provide them with better service. For example, we may use personal information to fulfill a giver’s grant request, respond to a giver’s inquiry, administer a giver’s fund, send tailored marketing materials to the giver, assess the giver’s specific needs and interests, or improve the website experience of givers. Personal information that is collected also helps IGF to verify and identify each person who establishes a fund at IGF or contributes or has access to an IGF fund. IGF collects personal information primarily through our donor advised fund application and our charity fund application, when a donation is made, or when you sign up to receive our newsletter(s).

IGF recognizes and appreciates the importance of responsible use of others’ personal information. We attempt to preserve the confidentiality of personal information, and when we use it, we do so with respect for the person’s privacy. Within IGF and among our partners and service providers, we prohibit access to an individual’s personal information by persons other than those who reasonably require it to communicate with that person on behalf of IGF, to provide or enable IGF to provide services or information the person needs or has requested, to maintain accurate records, for research and analysis to better serve the person or the charitable community, or for compliance or required reporting purposes. We do not sell, trade, rent, or share personal information with third parties other than our service providers except as expressly authorized by the person or his or her representative, to comply with applicable laws or court orders, or to protect the rights of IGF.  The identity of all who contact IGF will be kept confidential. IGF collects and uses your personal information to operate IGF’s websites and offline support in order to deliver the services you have requested. The use of your personal information will be limited to the internal purposes of IGF’s or its global partners and only to further our activities and purposes.

IGF does not share personal information with third party service providers unless you have asked us to do so as a part of the normal course of business. IGF does not store credit card or personal banking information on our servers. Personal information may be shared during our annual financial audit.

IGF never sends mailings on behalf of other organizations, but we may engage (a) a mailing company to distribute our own communications or (b) a research firm to collect survey responses.

IGF strives to keep records complete and accurate. Most personal information is contained in account statements that the person receives from us and on applications that the person submits to IGF. We encourage each person to review this information and notify us if any information should be corrected or updated. It is also important that persons take affirmative steps on their own to protect against unintended disclosure of their personal information, including the safeguarding of usernames and passwords needed to access IGF’s systems. IGF will provide any person reasonable access to their respective personal information we maintain about that person if, in IGF’s opinion, it is reasonable to presume that the person accessing our systems is entitled to do so.

IGF collects personal information in a lawful and fair manner. No personal information, other than what is necessary, is requested. Personal information we collect when you donate to, support, or receive grants on behalf of your organization from IGF includes your name, postal address, telephone number, date of birth, and email address. In more limited circumstances, we also may collect:

Information about family members and companions, such as names of your children or name of spouse if shared with IGF.

In order to conduct Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing checks on international charities we collect a government ID number on organizational leaders, but that information is not stored in a database and is only used for the purposes of the checks.

We use personal information to provide financial receipts and statements, reports on how your funding is used, and to update supporters on projects and grants they have recommended.

We will disclose personal information to comply with legal process, to respond to requests from government authorities, including authorities outside your country of residence, and to meet national security or law enforcement requirements.

If we would ever have a reason to believe data was compromised, we would notify those affected as required by law.

Online Use

Privacy both online and offline are equally important to IGF. With respect to IGF’s websites, IGF utilizes technologies intended to provide various levels of security. These technologies are intended to provide security and privacy when persons access and amend account information, initiate online transactions (such as contributions to IGF or recommendations of grants), or send secure messages. When a giver uses IGF’s websites to provide IGF with sensitive personal information (e.g., social security number), we protect that information during transmission and electronic storage through the use of encryption. For other types of personal information, we implement reasonable measures aimed at preventing the information from becoming disclosed to unauthorized individuals.

When online users visit IGF’s public website, they can surf the site anonymously and access information without revealing their identity. IGF’s web servers automatically log the IP/Internet address of the user’s computer and the browser type. Any user of the public website remains anonymous unless he or she provides the website with personal information.

Please be aware that IGF may use “cookies” to track an online user’s visit to IGF’s website. Cookies involve the transfer of a small amount of data to the user’s browser by a web server, which is intended to be read by the server that gave it to the user. A cookie serves as the user’s identification card, recording information the user provides. It cannot be executed as code or to deliver viruses.

Most browsers are initially set to accept cookies. Online users can set their browsers to provide a notice when they receive a cookie, giving the user the opportunity to decide whether to accept it. In some instances, accepting a cookie is not optional. If a user chooses not to accept the cookie, some portions of IGF’s website may not work properly.

IGF and its designated service providers will collect and share non-personally identifiable information about users of its website only in aggregate form with third parties, including any third party vendors.

Other information

Please note that although IGF employs reasonable precautions to protect the personal information of givers and prospective givers from loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction, IGF cannot guarantee the confidentiality of any communication or material transmitted to or from IGF by any means. No security measures are perfect, and we cannot promise that personal information about givers or prospective givers will remain secure in all circumstances.

IGF does not endorse, and is not responsible for, the privacy practices or the content of any third party web sites, including those linked to and from its public or nonpublic website.

You have the right to request and receive detailed information on what information we have on you personally, where that information is stored and how it’s utilized. You have the right to ask us to delete all information we have on you personally and can revoke the consent you gave previously to us for news and information.

California Privacy Rights. Under California Civil Code sections 1798.83-1798.84, California residents who have an established business relationship with IGF are entitled to ask us for a notice describing what categories of personal information we share with third parties or corporate affiliates for those third parties or corporate affiliates’ direct marketing purposes. That notice must identify the categories of information shared and include a list of the third parties and affiliates with which the information was shared, along with their names and addresses. California residents seeking a copy of this notice may submit a written request to the mailing address below. Please allow 30 days for a response.
